    Microsurgeon was unbelievable! Especially the TI port. One of the best looking games you could play at home back in the day. That’s the game I showed to friends to show just how capable the system was. Nothing ever surpassed it. The multiple screens and the zoom in screen plus speech made it the juggernaut of TI games.

      Midway manufactured and distributed those games in the west, so they definitely count. It's hardly lazy, it's the reverse, because it shows I did thorough research and went to the trouble of including all their releases, rather than just a bundle people know about.

    Is there anyway to post a list of release dates in the same order as the video? This would be useful for the pre 1980 titles and more obscure pre Merger titles. For example: the two western Shooters: Tombstone and (???) ( which clearly inspired the Atari VCS Outlaw).. which one came first? Tombstone with the analog overlay graphic. Looks to be a bit later. The glut of very similar baseball titles: japanese licenses? Man... That TV Basketball game is wretchid looking!!! Are the "TV" titles the oldest? This is the reason i would like to see the dates as part of the format ( chronologocal order maybe too).... Having grwon up in Chicagoland (Midway's home) a lot of these games are vaguely familiar. But being that didnt reach the height needed (our basic autonomy needed to be let loose in a restaurant game room) to play them until around 1981.... Some of these oldest versions were already relics by that time, having been moved aside (or re-cabinete?) for the newer more profitable ones. I am also curious in a few of them that you show the dual analog and digital game displays ( maybe sea wolf or another had red analog loading displays that actually were part of the game?).. Some of the sprites of the late 1970's titles are really great... They are coming into their own. A few of the games... Like "Shuffleboard" made me think " who needs video shuffleboard?" ( Real shuffleboard played at my grandparent's retirement complex was really a great game)... But then... As a tech demo, the physics of Shuffleboard.. actally look impressive. Great video overall. Thanks

    Everything Sega is said to have failed for is exactly what current gen consoles are praised for doing: huge clone game libraries i.e backwards compatibility, multiple skus of the same console with differing specs and swappable add-on hardware, VR headsets, and ever increasing graphics. Sega was right. The competition at ms and sony knew it. They worked together to run Sega out of the business to make greater room for themselves.

    You do realize that everything you showed is essentially games. This is probably why this system bit the dust so early and killed commodore. They failed to take computing seriously and were wayyyy ahead of the curve for gaming systems. It ended up becoming an overblown console system.

      Yep, the A1200 was pretty much just a games machine. In hindsight Commodore probably should have just released the CD32 and then offered an add-on computer kit for it with a disk drive and keyboard.

    Your top 20 greatest video game list of all time is absolutely awful. I really mean that. I started playing games back in 1976/77 and I can safely say that you don't understand the concept of what makes a good game. The Simpsons and TMNT - WTF??? Dragon's Lair not making the list along with a host of other Laser Disc games? No Black Tiger or Ghosts & Goblins? You didn't put Wrestlemania or The Main Event anywhere within, along with Gauntlet? And no Defender or Crystal Castles? No Mr Do either? No Nemesis/Vulcan Venture or Darius? And yet you put in Double Dragon which is essentially a rip off of Golden Axe? There's no Final Fight either for crying out loud. No Xevious, Pleiades or Phoenix. No Paper Boy, Moon Patrol or Moon Cresta? No Space Harrier, Virtua Fighter, Crazy Taxi and NOT ONE TEKKEN??? The games about were off the top of my head, in the couple of minutes it took to write this. You really need to brush up on what makes a good arcade game as you list is utter whack.

    • @TheLairdsLair
      @TheLairdsLair День назад

      You have clearly completely missed the point of this list and could have saved yourself a massive rant and that valuable "couple of minutes". I am guessing you either didn't listen to the start of the video or weren't paying attention because this isn't my list. My own opinions had ZERO influence here, this was a democratic vote where over 500 people voted for their top 5 and then I counted up the votes to compile the final list. So no, I don't need to brush up on anything, but you definitely need to brush up on your ability to pay attention.

    • @TheLairdsLair
      @TheLairdsLair День назад

      Also, Double Dragon was released 2 years before Golden Axe, so how can it be a rip-off a game that didn't event exist? Most of the games you list are in this one, just not in the Top 20. See the pinned post in the comments.

    A Game Boy clone with every submission to every Friendly Jam would be an amazing product and a perfect gaming entry point for young girls but very enjoyable for any gamer who can appreciate cozy games that put a smile on your face. Friendly Jam games would mean that any issues with the beyond cheap hardware inputs would be resolved as the games aren't generally fast action games. These systems could easily stand out by doing this kind of thing and give you a reason to buy that particular one, even making it a viable product to be sold here rather than ones like the video subject that are just a standard cheapo China model slapped with a few licensed games. (Its worth getting the roms from Friendly Jam as they are great fun. I enjoyed nearly all and some are truly excellent.)

  • @arostwocents
    @arostwocents День назад

    Its crazy that they use a million variations of the worst games ever made when there is tonnes of freeware homebrew they could fill these with online. Having 300 random homebrews would be much better than 5 variations of 40 truly dire games. Eg for a Speccy system, you dont NEED the ones that require licenses, as homebrew is better than 99% of released games and there are enough games that wont cost anything to use from back in the day. But somehow losing access to terrible classics causes projects to collapse, despite free homebrew being tonnes better, not being from a time before game design language was established

  • @arostwocents
    @arostwocents День назад

    Can these things be jailbroken and filled with roms? Would be a nice GB/C & GG handheld? Lack of select button would be an issue though. Requirement of a monstrous amount of batteries would mean its not worth it, even if possible though.

    Wow. All they needed to do was clone Galaxy II and add the extra lanes. Its sad it looks less fun than the game that kicked off LCD systems in the 70s!! Galaxy II had three different rounds and a proper bonus stage. Its amazing they managed to make an LCD of the game that the best LCD was based on and ignored the true classic LCD. Galaxy II with more lanes would have made this a must buy! Everyone who has RA, grab the LCD core and you can download Galaxy II from within RA (get content) and see how much fun it is. Despite having only 3 lanes as it was the 70s and the very start of LCD, i go back to it for a round every few months at least. And i am too old to have played it as a kid too!

    The videos with no commentary like this and especially four play are boring 😢 four play could be great with a comparitative review of each. Thats what i thought it was going to be. • @TheLairdsLair

      For you maybe, a lot of people hate commentary over gameplay because they want to hear the audio. This is a straight gameplay video, not reviews of the games - I do those too though, I like to do both. The whole point of Four Play videos is the viewer deciding which one is best, which is why I also do a poll alongside each one, me telling you would kind of defeat that and stifle engagement.

    The TI99/4A was ahead of it's time, I ended up with one instead of the Spectrum 16K due to months of delays after ordering one, it was a much more impressive computer with a proper keyboard, sound chip, hardware sprites Etc. and I later got a C64 too. The TI99/4A "speech synthesizer" was very impressive, in extended basic you could break words in the vocabulary down to a string of parts, I spent hours cutting up tiny parts of words from the almost 400 word vocabulary to put them together to make new ones, but it was really just digitized sound, not a synthesizer. Some games were able to increase the built in vocabulary for custom digitized speech like the male and female speech in Alpiner for instance.

    Just had to say that you're very brave by courting controversy by including a clip with Bill Cosby at the beginning of your video.

      Cosby was the face of the TI99 so it's pretty impossible to avoid him!

    Im shocked Death Tank Zwei isnt on here. Best theme song and the best 7 player action on any system. We used to gather for a night of 7 player DT every friday night at my friends. It was absolutely incredible. The weapon purchasing to build power, that could be overcome by everyone else ganging up on them. What a great game.

    I didn't know Munchman before seeing this video - it gives strong Pepper II vibes.
